Resolution: Eat Healthy

Loose weight. Exercise more. Quit smoking. Stop drinking. Sound familiar? So many people resolve to change themselves to lead a more healthy life at the beginning of every new year and it seems as though everyone gives up on their resolutions by the time spring rolls around. Being a food blogger and a culinary student I may be biased, but I firmly believe that almost everything to do with living a healthy life falls back to what you eat. Whether you want to spend more time doing fun activities with your family, traveling, exercising more, or just living, it all starts with good food. Food that simultaneously nourishes and excites your taste buds. Food that comes from the earth, not from the inside of a factory.

However, achieving your goals with the help of a healthful diet is not a short-term fix. Sure, loosing ten pounds is do-able, but is changing your entire lifestyle? To me, that’s what it takes to achieve a resolution. You have to want to change, want to be healthier, want to wake up every morning feeling fantastic. If you want to quit smoking, you have to become a non-smoker. You have to change yourself. I think that realization is daunting to many people and is probably the reason so many quit their goals. This is why I wanted to start this series – Resolution: Eat Healthy. I wanted to help people (myself included) realize that they can provide themselves and their families with wholesome, delicious food for as long as they live. With so many families reliant on convenience foods like take-out and frozen dinners, I wanted to try to pass on the knowledge I’ve managed to gain to others.

The premise for this series is that change must be gradual in order for it to stick. On those weight loss reality TV shows you might see some fit personal trainer or nutritionist rampage through the fridge of an overweight family and basically throw everything into the garbage and leave them with unappealing health food. It’s crazy. That’s why I’ll be featuring easy to apply tips and info in this weekly series about how to gradually (and successfully) make the necessary changes to a more healthy diet.

So look out for posts at the beginning of every week featuring tips to slowly alter your diet to something that not only tastes great but is also more healthy. I hope you’ll enjoy the featured recipes as much as I have! I would also appreciate feedback – if there’s anything you’d like to see or if you have any advice yourself I’d love to know!

    I couldn't agree with what you've said more! I changed my lifestyle in the past few years (and I probably treat myself more than I should, hah) BUT for me it's all moderation. I don't pack junk food in my lunches, I go to the gym at least 4 times a week, eat a healthy dinner and then enjoy some sweets 🙂 Looking forward to all of your delicious and healthy inspired recipes! Happy 2011!
