Just BARE Chicken

Last month I shared a video recipe for Savory Slow Cooker Chicken that featured a lovely Just BARE® whole chicken that I had picked up at my local Super Target. I do a lot of grocery shopping at Super Target so I was thrilled when they started carrying the Just BARE® brand. Throughout culinary school anytime we were assigned an essay or other writing assignment, I always set my research focus on the American food system and how our food is raised.

I’ve read almost all the books on this topic from Fast Food Nation to many of Michael Pollan’s works. So when I discovered that Just BARE® provides quality chicken raised with a vegetable and grain fed diet without animal by-products or antibiotics – and that is humane certified – I became an instant customer. The brand is also committed to moving forward with sustainable practices and reducing their carbon footprint. The best part about purchasing Just BARE® chicken, however, is their product’s traceability. You can click “trace your chicken” on their website and enter a unique code that is stamped onto each package to discover where your chicken came from and who raised it. How amazing is that?

Needless to say I really love the Just BARE® brand. So much so that after I posted that Savory Slow Cooker Chicken I reached out to the brand to see if they might be interested in teaming up to provide Handle the Heat readers with fun posts and delicious recipes. To my delight they agreed which is why I am writing today to introduce you to the brand!

If you’re anything like me you cook a LOT of chicken. It’s easy, healthy, and affordable. Plus it tastes good with just about anything. I love to buy a bunch of chicken and freeze it until I’m ready to use so I always have some on hand. I especially love chicken thighs because they’re inexpensive, moist, and flavorful. I also clearly love cooking whole chickens mostly because I can make them last all week for lunches or serve them as a special meal on Sundays. Luckily Just BARE® recently released a new line including more cuts of chicken and larger Family Pack sizes, more than doubling their product line. If you haven’t purchased Just BARE® products before, discover where to purchase with this product locator.

If you are already a fan of the brand, I have something for you too! I created this handy Chicken Cheat Sheet that you can right click to save and print off or save to your phone or tablet to take into the kitchen with you. It has everything you need to know about cooking chicken, perfect for getting dinner on the table on weeknights! Please note the times provided are guidelines and it may take more or less time for your chicken to reach an internal temperature of 165°F. You may also want to cook bone-in and darker cuts to a higher internal temperature of 175°F.

Great post! And love your tips for cooking chicken–so useful. I might have to make your slow-cooked chicken recipe in my dutch-oven, it just looks SO good. And love how this brand is human certified, which is so important to me as well!

Thanks Laura! I’m sure that chicken would turn out great in a dutch oven 🙂
