Have you missed me? It’s been longer than usual since my last post. I’M SORRY! I have been swamped. Why I decided to take two (accelerated) summer classes while working a job, writing a blog, and writing a cookbook is beyond me. Dumb idea. But at least I’ll graduate with my Bachelor’s early.
I’ve also been totally distracted by our puppy, Chewie, who demands constant attention and just got neutered two days ago. When we picked him up at the vet’s office I thought I had never seen sadder puppy eyes. Also, my boyfriend recently came home after being away for two and a half months straight. Needless to say, I have enough distractions in my life at the moment. I’m thankful that most of them are good distractions. Luckily I have a bunch of recipes for posts that I’ve made and photographed, I just need to squeeze in the time to edit the photos and write those dang posts already.
By the way, happy summer! Here in Arizona it’s already felt like summer for months. 111°F as a high temperature is always fun…
Taste: So much more flavorful than store-bought garlic bread. You’ll never want to buy garlic bread again.
Texture: The crust of the bread is crunchy while the inside is soft, fluffy, and buttery.
Ease: Nothing difficult here at all.
Appearance: I love the contrast of the green herbs against the bread.
Pros: Easy and scrumptious.
Cons: None, really. As long as you can limit yourself to one piece. Which is nearly impossible.
Would I make this again? Yes.
Double-Garlic & Herb Bread
1 16-ounce French baguette, cut in half lengthwise
1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperature
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped fresh Italian parsley
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne powder
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
Preheat oven to 350°F. Cut bread in half horizontally. Mix together the butter, garlic, parsley, oregano, basil, garlic powder, and cayenne powder in a small bowl.
Spread butter evenly mixture over each half of bread. Place on a large baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. If using Parmesan cheese, remove bread from oven and sprinkle with cheese. Change oven setting to broil and broil bread for 1 to 2 minutes, or until toasted.
Remove from oven and let cool for 2 minutes before slicing.
