Hello blogosphere, this is my first post.

A little about me:

I'm a student currently residing in a hot oven (aka Phoenix, Arizona). I hope to eventually have a career in something pertaining to: cooking, baking, writing, or entrepreneurship. In the mean time, as I am studying and desperately trying to find a major that suits me, I decided to create a blog that relates to all the things that I love. My goal is to have my own domain one day (handletheheat.com) and a professional, pretty website. As of now, I'm too much of a cliche broke student to afford that. Blogger will suffice. For now.

When it comes to cooking, I really love Italian food. When it comes to baking, I really love chocolate. However, I'm always down to try anything at least once. My favorite cookbooks of the moment are Everyday Italian, Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics, The Food You Crave (can you tell I watch Food Network?), Baked, Williams Sonoma: Dessert, and Williams Sonoma: Pasta. I'm fairly obsessed with Williams Sonoma, actually. I'm slowly improving my kitchen with appliances and tools. I recently was given a KitchenAid Food Processor and a Wusthof Culinar Chef Chef's Knife, both of which I absolutely adore. See my wishlist for more kitchen goodies I'm wanting! While I love chocolate and pasta, I also try to keep health on my mind. Keyword: try. Luckily I have a pretty fast metabolism so healthy eating isn't always on my mind. I do like to feel fit and healthy though, so my motto is everything in moderation.


A little about Handle the Heat:

This blog is a food blog (obviously!) that will feature recipes that I've created, photos I've taken of the food I made, and reviews on restaurants, cookbooks, recipes, and kitchen utensils. Like I said before, I hope to make this blog into a domain (handletheheat.com) eventually. After that, my hopes go further to make this website interactive with recipe submittals, forums, reviews, etc. all while focusing on images. I love images. I hate text. Part of the reason I am so passionate about cooking and food is the sensory pleasure that comes with it. The smell of cookies baking in the oven. The sight of cheese oozing out of a multi-layered lasagna. The sound of bacon sizzling on a frying pan. The texture of chocolate ganache on your tongue. The taste of a perfectly seared steak filet. Nothing can portray the sensory goodness of food better than beautiful, clear, detailed photography. Plus, pictures are more fun to look at than words.
